Adept of Chaos is up to about 147,500 words, and in the final stretch of the book. I give even odds I’ll finish the rough draft this week, but I’m not absolutely sure. What I am sure of is that this is going to be one monstrously-sized book for me. I honestly expected this book to be closer to 100,000 or so words, maybe as much as 110,000. If you’re curious about how many ‘pages’ that is, as a rough estimate your average paperback has ~350 words per page. That means a 100,000 word book is about 285 pages. If I finished Adept of Chaos right now, it’d be about 421 pages… and it still has a ways to go. I’m stunned.
As if that wasn’t enough for the week, we’ve got two things coming up! On Tuesday the Audiobook of Chosen of Chaos is going to come out, which I think will be awesome. Secondly, Sarah Goer finished recording the audiobook of Queen’s Gambit this past week, so I submitted it for publishing. No idea how long that’ll take, hopefully just a couple of weeks on Audible’s side. I’m going to try to get it up via other distributors as well in the coming week.
Last but not least, you may have noticed some artwork I’ve put up as part of the banner on the page, which alternates with the World Tree artwork. I commissioned artwork of Beacon from Hanonaut, who did a wonderful job with it. While the artwork isn’t perfect, it comes far, far closer to the design of the city that I intended from the very beginning. Most of the differences are in the background and city surroundings, things which I didn’t notice during the painting step. I hope you like it!
