January 24th 2021 Update

I edited Chosen of Chaos this past week, and I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out. I’ve also scheduled it with the editor, so as long as I can finish my final edit on time, I should be able to release it the first or second week of March. I’ll probably schedule the pre-order for the second week of March, and move the release up once I’m sure that it’ll make it.

I was also planning to start on Queen’s Gambit this week, but I’ll be honest, I’m not sure that I’ll be able to. I’ve been feeling unusually drained and unmotivated the past few days, and I think I may be on the verge of burnout, so we’ll see if taking a few more days off will help. If I can write, I intend to, but a major goal this year is personal care. It needs to happen, so I’m going to do it.

I’ve also got an interim cover for Chosen of Chaos, which I expect to be replaced later on. The cover below is a test, and I’m showing the full art as well, which was illustrated by Michal Kvรกฤ. I hope you like it!

  1. Ah, self-care. One of the many things that doesn’t (shouldn’t) just stop at a year. Though I guess the whole point of a New Year’s Resolution is to ingrain those habits to make them stick longer ๐Ÿ˜…
While I’ll admit I’d love to see you turbo out book 6, please don’t push yourself to do so. (I’ll also be sad/depressed knowing that’s the break point for this arc of Lilith’s journey) Seriously, though, take a break if you need one. I get that it’s your job, but a burnt-out author is not a productive author. I highly doubt your projects are going anywhere, and the worst thing would be for the end result to suffer (if you truly care about your craft/artwork). Sorry if anything came off as cruel, I wasn’t meaning it in that manner

Now on the cover (as temp as it may be), the feeling it gives me (which I wasn’t expecting) is a more sci-fi vibe than fantasy vibe (but you know what they say). I know you said she was an empress, but I was 100% expecting an elven ruler, not space. I was also not expecting a /red/ “saber of light” (hope that won’t get me in trouble lol) to be on the cover. I’ll be very interested to read it when it comes out.

Hope everything sorts itself out! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Yeah, self-care is something I’m concerned about, just in general. And avoiding burnout is one of my highest-priority things in general. I want to do the books justice, and not make them feel weak or anything like that.

As for the cover, it’s definitely supposed to give a sci-fi vibe. The story is science fantasy, with spaceships, magic, and a lot of weirdness. I’m hoping to have the pre-order up in the next day or two, but we’ll see.
