Talyn: Unyielding Released!

Talyn: Unyielding is now out! The book went slightly differently than I expected, but I really enjoyed writing it on the whole, despite the numerous distractions during the writing. I hope you enjoy it! Here’s a link if you didn’t already order it.

Also, the manuscript is with Podium Audio for recording. Since I wasn’t entirely sure myself, I checked and the current SAG-AFTRA strike will not affect the recording. I would’ve mentioned yesterday, but, uh… I forgot to. Sorry!

In any case, enjoy!

  1. Received at 9:03 PM last night (gotta love being on the Best Coast), finished at 2:30 AM this morning. Thoroughly enjoyed, looking forward to another read-through today more fully appreciate the story.

I think I might like the Talyn series more than Ancient Dreams… it’s fairly close call.

Lot of room for expansion, can’t wait to see what the Guardians get up to next.

Here’s hoping for lots of sales and some good relaxation time for you.

  2. Hehe. The people who are most fortunate are the ones in New Zealand/Australia, in my opinion! They get way earlier!

But I’m glad you enjoyed it! This one was a little crazy to write for multiple reasons, and I did a fair bit of shuffling things about (the current Chapter 1 was originally Chapter 4, but after some discussion I decided to move it up, plus some other things).

It definitely has tons of room for expansion, though. Ancient Dreams was designed to have a specific end-point from the beginning by me, whereas Talyn’s Saga was sort of like a web serial in concept.

As for sales… I hadn’t checked previously, but they’re doing alright thus far. Paid for about 2/3 of the cost of art + editing. Hopefully it’ll pass the full costs in short order! I’m definitely trying to relax. (I’m very trying…)

  3. Wasn’t surprising that I enjoyed the book (🖒^_^), but looking back, I’m surprised you managed to include the Guardians “dues ex machina”-ing in Talyn’s life as much as they did and have it feel natural instead of out of place. Kuddos! Maybe because of them spending so much hilarious time working on their “women of steel, world of paper” issues. Origami was a great follow up to the granite and trees.

It’s not likely, given it was the 3rd step on the process and having way better control than this, but I have an image of Ilys having pages of paper arranged like some karate brick breaking demonstration, and trying to eek out a tap on a page, and just the wall and 1000 yards of terrain going boom. “drat”, next page.

Though I like One Punch Man too, so OP characters in a story can work… a thought which leads me to picture Ilys a bit as a female Saitama (with hair tho). Her jungle disintegration punch in the last book like his Genos ‘miss’ & mountain range punch one (though not as serious) ;)

    Thanks for the great book!

  4. I’m glad you enjoyed it! The book was definitely in an odd spot for me. It took a different turn than I expected, anyway.

As for the Guardians, they’re definitely one of those delicate problems for a novel. I don’t want to ignore them, but I have to carefully balance their presence with whether or not they’d be overshadowing Talyn. Fortunately, their goals help with it… and I have had fun with their practice. I often call Eldri the Tsundragon, because she’s just… such a tsundere.

But yeah, Ilys and the others have been having a rough time. Having a specific goal helps them focus, though!

    I’m glad you enjoyed it!
