August 8th 2021 Update

Adept of Chaos is now up to approximately 122,500 words! I pushed myself a little this past week to get some extra done, but I’ve still got a decent amount of plot to get through. I’m not sure how long it’ll end up being at this point, but I doubt it’ll hit the 150,000 word mark.

I’ve also been working a little on some projects for fun, some silly LitRPG/Dungeon Core ones, but I’m not sure if they’re things I want to publish. Though calling them ‘little’ shows how much things have changed for me, as I have over 40,000 words on one, and 60,000 on the other. It’s insane to think about from that perspective.

No other real news at the moment… I’m trying to get Adept of Chaos out as soon as I can!

  1. I’d love to read your take on LitRPG/Dungeon Core. I think you’ve incorporated some aspects of those genres in your Ancient Dreams and Beesong Chronicles series and they are perhaps my favorite series of yours :)

  2. You’ll hit 149,999 words. Just sayin’. Glad to hear things are moving along, but do remember to step back and breathe now and then.

You’ve done stories with dungeon cores before, but LitRPG doesn’t seem to be something you’ve worked on before (or at least not released to the general public). It’ll be interesting to see what you’ve done.

May the day find you in good health and spirits.

  3. You’re definitely right about Ancient Dreams and Beesong Chronicles! As it happens, Ancient Ruins was written when I asked myself how I’d handle a dungeon core story with my own twist to it. Especially since I wanted the protagonist to not be a murderous jerk.

I’ve also explored LitRPG a few times, but I’m not fond of stats for the most part, because they rarely make any sort of sense to me. So generally I have relatively ‘light’ mechanics when I poke the genre, though Beesong Chronicles is the only one I’ve published.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens! No idea whether either of them will see light of day. If the Dungeon Core one does, it’ll probably be under a pen name.

  4. We shall see! I think I’m past the (effective) climax of the story, and doing wind-down… though with how episodic sections of the books in Eve of Destruction are, it’s a bit harder to tell. Need this section for the plot, though. I’m definitely keeping an eye on my energy levels, though.

But yeah, I’ve worked with both before a little, but I’m avoiding stats entirely this time around, aside from levels. And experience bars, I suppose, but it isn’t like the characters get explicit feedback on how much they get.

In all honesty, I think the Dungeon Core story may be dead, I haven’t worked on it in a few weeks, but the LitRPG seems to have more promise. Might start sharing it with my Patrons soon, though it needs a better title than it’s current placeholder text.

  5. I’m afraid not. It’s scheduled to be finished with recording in the next week and a half, but after that point (assuming there are no corrections), it’ll take anywhere from a week to two months for Audible to actually approve it. Possibly even longer than that, possibly shorter (I’ve heard of someone’s audiobook being approved in a day, but that was insanely unusual). Now, I’m going to try to put it up on other sites immediately, but there’s no guarantee on how quickly they’ll move. Sorry I don’t have better news on that.
