Queen’s Gambit is up to ~37,500 words, a bit less than what I hoped, but I slammed headfirst into writer’s block with it on Thursday. Hopefully I’ll work through it over the next day or so, but we’ll see how that goes. Writer’s block isn’t much fun, I have to say.
On the other hand, Chosen of Chaos has done far, far better than I expected it to. At this point it has beaten the first-month sales for all but three of my novels handily, with 1,006 sales as of this writing. Those three are my best-performing books by a large margin, Ancient Ruins, Spells of Old, and Halls of Power, so seeing it do well enough that it’s even in the same ballpark as them is incredibly gratifying. Just to give context, the first month of sales for Ancient Ruins (well, second month, really… it was my first book and took a bit to ramp up) was 1,641 copies sold, Born a Queen sold 889 copies, Dusk Gate sold 428 copies, Heaven’s Fallen sold 697 copies, Sting & Song (combining the first two months since it was released at the end of a month) sold 568 copies, and The Avatar’s Flames sold 442 copies.
The nature of writing is that when you have something successful, it’s almost always a good idea to follow up on it quickly. Fortunately, I was already working on Adept of Chaos on the side before I realized how well Chosen of Chaos was doing, and I’ve managed ~20,000 words on it so far. I’m going to focus on finishing Queen’s Gambit first, but Adept of Chaos is going to be a major focus as well, as I am very inspired for the story to begin with. It shouldn’t (hopefully) push back book 2 of Soul Bound or the other projects I have in mind, but it could. Just a word of warning!
Anyway, that’s it for this week… I’m looking at getting some more cover art, and possibly adjusting some covers in the near future. I hope everyone stays safe and is well!
