May 31st 2020 Update

Queen of Diamonds comes out tomorrow (today for people in the Eastern time zones), and I’m really excited to see what people think! Things go a little weird in the book, and some of the things I’ve been planning since Born a Queen are starting to pan out at last. If you get it, I hope you enjoy the book! Incidentally, recording has started on the audiobook of Queen’s Move, and it’ll be immediately followed by Queen of Diamonds. It’s still going to take a while, though!

Now, as for news on Hives & Heroism. It’s up to ~81,000 words, but I’m not in crunch time for it. I can’t finish it in time to get it to the editor on schedule and do the book justice. I hate to delay at this point, but I don’t see any way I can finish it in time, not without butchering the story, and I refuse to do that. So, based on that, I’m guessing that it’s going to have an early August release, and I’m sorry to let you know this late.

That’s the news for this week, though! I hope everyone is safe!

  1. Oh! Can’t remember if I told you, but I enjoyed the Through the Fire Omnibus you made.😂

  2. Received Queen of Diamonds on the Kindle app at about 9PM PDT, started reading and finished at about 11:30 PM. That’s a lot of twists and turns in there. I enjoyed the work very much and my only comment is… “Please sir, may I have more?”.

  3. I’m glad you liked it! I’ve done things like that myself when a favorite writer of mine came out with a new book, so I do understand.

Amusingly, not all the biggest twists in the book were planned ahead of time, including the *big* twist. I was planning for it to happen eventually, but not in this book. I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.

As for more… I intend to get more out this year! If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have dared stop it where I did. One of my big things is trying not to leave books on a down note.

  5. Thank you very much for the kind words! As for if it helps me more than just buying it, I honestly don’t know! What I often say is, read it however you feel works best for you. I appreciate the support either way.

I currently have plans to continue all of the series except Mantles of Power (which is open to expansion, just not likely), though if I go back to Ancient Dreams we’d be following Phynis & Sistina’s daughter instead of them. I wrote a silly ‘possible future’ prologue a few months ago which entertained me, so it’s definitely possible. But I have two more books of Lilith’s Shadow planned for this year, though they could push into 2021 as well, so it’s coming!

So much to write, so little time…

  6. I love Eysiril too. I also really enjoy Lilith she is very fun to read about.

I just finished Queen of Diamonds and while I love Lilith – I can’t wait to read more about Lilith later this year and see what’s going on and will buy every book you write.

Potential spoiler, but tried to make it vague enough that those who didn’t read it yet won’t understand it.

I will admit I really really did not like the artificial emotional twist that occurred in the book. Felt a bit forced.

That being said I can wait for the next one in the series

  7. Regarding the emotional twist… I’ve honestly had something along the lines planned since Born a Queen. This is earlier than I originally intended it to occur, but it fits the overall progression of the plot better. To keep from spoiling, I’ll leave it at that.

  8. It was an awesome read. I know why you did it, but damn it that was an awful time to make a cliff hanger!!😂

  9. Don’t worry about the delay, though thanks for letting us know about it, I think I can speak for most of us, as much as we hate the wait, we appreciate the quality and awesomeness of what you publish enough that it is only our psychological wellbeing and hairstyles at risk, not our continued appreciation of your stories.

  10. Of course, it doesn’t help that Hives & Heroism is one of the books that I *really* want to get right. I’m not going to set a release date until I’m absolutely certain it’s ready.

But thank you for the kind words! Hopefully once it’s out it’ll prove worth the wait!
