Just as forewarning, I’ll be gone on vacation next week and the following Sunday, so may or may not give an update.
I completed the rough draft of Talyn: Repose, and the book is with my alpha team! It’s a bit over 150,000 words, which is more than I expected. It’s going well, which makes me happy!
In other news, the new audiobook version of Ancient Ruins is now out! This was narrated by Sarah Goer, who’s narrated many of my books, and she put a lot of time into it. Some people have asked if I’ll be doing the other books in the series, and the answer is yes. Both Spells of Old and Halls of Power will be narrated by her, and I’ll be putting up an omnibus version as well. These will all match the newly edited versions of the books which I’ll upload beforehand, though Amazon doesn’t like updating people’s ebooks for some reason. Ancient Ruins has been updated, to clarify. Links for the new Ancient Ruins audiobook are below.
To answer a couple of common questions:
- I already purchased the old audiobook, will I get the new audiobook for free? No. Audible considers it a completely different product, which is why the reviews are also gone. It also cost a lot to produce, so I can’t simply give it away. The trilogy will cost me significantly more than $10,000 to produce, and I tend to get less than $5 per sale. I can’t afford simply give it away, as much as I’d like to.
- Will I lose my old copy? No. If you already own it, it’ll remain in your library. However, it may be hidden from view for some unknowable reason. I have no control over how Audible handles it, unfortunately.
- Why a new recording? I’ve been planning to do this since about 2018. The original didn’t have my full edits which came later, there were errors due to my inexperience and the producer not using the same voices as in their audition, and other things. I also wanted full control over the audiobook, so I paid for it. To be frank, I don’t expect it to ever fully pay for itself, but I could be fortunate. Fortunately, the first version more than paid for itself, so if I take that into account, they’ll be profitable between the two. Probably.
- When will the others come out? This summer and fall. Part of it depends on Audible, since they have to pull down the old listings before I can put up a new version of the audiobooks. I can start the process in mid-July and early October, for Spells of Old and Halls of Power. I expect it to take a few weeks for each to finish the process.
Amazon is pretty good at not messing with people’s book and audiobook libraries.
I would be pretty upset if authors could change or delete content I’ve purchased. I know such a function would be mostly used against my interests.
Buying the audiobook again is fine, and I just did so. Some people will complain, but they are fucking stupid.

Yeah, I’d be *horrified* if they deleted one you’d purchased. Had someone come into Discord, asking what happened to their copy of AR, and I was… somewhat panicked until they found it’d been hidden from view.

I don’t want Amazon to silently update my ebooks/audiobooks either, but I’d like more explicit control over which version I’m reading. Including switching back to an older version if necessary. A message like this would be great: “You’re currently reading the 2020 version of this ebook. The author/publisher created a new version in 2024. Would you like to switch to the new version? You can switch back at any time.” But I don’t expect Amazon will ever add a niche feature like this.
I’m currently listening to the new audiobook. It’s great. (But I also loved the previous version.)

Yeah, it’d be nice if they had that. I doubt they’d do it, either.
But I’m glad you’re liking the new version!

I just finished the audiobook. It was awesome. I’m looking forward to the sequels. :)
I noticed a single error: The end credits start with “This has been… This has been…”

Odd, I’ll have to take a look when I’m a little more conscious.
