February 20th 2022 Update

Phoenix Ascendant is up to ~91,000 words, and I’m not certain it won’t be finished this month. As much as I’d like it to be, the story isn’t going to be done by 100,000 words, not even close. I’m guessing that I’ll finish the rough draft in mid-March, but given how off my estimates have been, it could take longer. It doesn’t help that I’m sure that I’m fighting with burn-out at the moment. I’m trying to figure out how to deal with that, but I honestly don’t know at the moment. Apparently how long Adept of Chaos went really wrecked me, and I didn’t realize it.

There’s not much to say beyond that. The audio of Adept of Chaos is scheduled for March 1st still, which I’m excited about, and new cover art for Talyn: Rebirth just got started. I’m trying to get into the groove of things, but I may end up taking another break at some point. Or maybe taking off a few days a month, like I’ve seen some other authors do. I don’t know yet.

Anyway, I hope you’re all doing well!

  1. Watch out for those double negatives!!! “I’m not certain it won’t be” means “I do think that I will”, which is the exact opposite of what you meant to imply! Also, you ever try any positive mantras to encourage yourself (like what that Olympic curler had written on her hand)?!? Regardless, keep up the good work!!!

  2. Yup, that didn’t come out right. Ah, well.

Honestly, I’d be shocked if it’s finished this month, because there’s way too much to the plot to fit in 12,500 words or less, which is about what I’d do in a good week.

But yeah, I’ve tried positive mantras. There’s only so much I can do, though.
