Obelisk of Blood is up to about 52,500 words, as I expected for the week. Things are moving along at a decent clip, and I’m hopeful that the upcoming week will go well, but we’ll see when we get there! Returning to Ruethwyn’s story has gone rather well, I think part of it is that I’ve had the storyline in the back of my head for years now, just percolating. My writing style has changed significantly, though.
Other than that, there isn’t much to talk about. I’ve been reading a bit, writing, and generally doing my usual things. I hope you all have a wonderful week!
I just finished rereading the Through the Fire omnibus and I’m looking forward to reading more about Ruethwyn. :)
I have a question about Essryl: Is she actually a Priestess of Nature’s Court? I got a bit confused by two seemingly contradictory conversations between Essryl and Anara in chapters 53 and 65.

I don’t blame you for finding it confusing, a person I hired to put together a world bible for me had the same question.
To answer it, she is, but not in the same way as most people consider priesthood. She’s granted power by Nature’s Court, but she isn’t part of a church, nor does she try to spread their faith, preach, or anything of that sort. In a lot of ways she’s slightly closer to a holy knight of the faith… it’s a complicated situation.
However, if you go by the definition of ‘an ordained minister of , with the authority to perform certain rites’, she is not.

Thank you for the explanation. :)
I also really liked reading “Before the Fire” directly after the main story, even though these were the same chapters that I couldn’t get past on my first attempt at reading the original “The Avatar’s Flames”. I guess knowing the outcome makes a huge difference.

Yeah, as one of my earliest books, the first few chapters were excellent for showing where she came from, but terrible for drawing in readers. It was a learning experience for me.
